About
Meet Amal Ibrahim
Community organizer, small business owner, and candidate for MN Senate District 50
My Story
Amal Ibrahim is a community organizer who came to the United States as an immigrant from Somalia in 1999, first settling in Los Angeles, California. She moved to Minnesota in 2012 and built strong ties in Northeast Minneapolis while working as a cultural liaison helping immigrant communities connect to essential resources and successfully settle in the Twin Cities. She is currently a small business owner focused on health care services.
Her civic engagement began in college where she helped organize students to support the DREAM Act and advocate for reduced in-state tuition in California. She has worked on numerous local electoral campaigns and served as a field manager for Grassroots Democrats HQ, helping expand civic engagement and participation across the country. She has also been active with the Democratic Farmers Labor Party and worked as a policy advocate with labor organizations, including helping organize and push for increased wages and better working conditions for Uber and Lyft drivers.
Amal's commitment to practical policies such as affordable health care access, affordable housing, workforce opportunity, and educational access comes directly from her experience serving immigrant and under-resourced communities as they navigate complex government systems. From a young age, she served as an advocate and translator for her parents and neighbors, developing the ability to bridge cultural divides and support those in need.
